Women’s Endowment Fund
The Women’s Fund is a permanent endowment created by a group of local women whose long-term objective is to assist women in crises, through education focusing on financial and community responsibility. The Women’s Fund makes grants to support effective programs that address some of the most pressing issues facing women in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. These issues include domestic violence, homelessness, health care and more.
In 2006, the Women’s Fund made its first grant to the Violence Intervention Counseling Services program at Family Resources and in 2008, granted to the Douglas Park Project to purchase five sets of washers and dryers.
“Douglas Park Place was an ideal recipient of our grant because they work to reunite recovering addicts and substance abusers with their families by providing transitional housing and support services,” said Tana Odean, Women’s Fund participant.
The Women’s Fund works by consensus and will continue making grants to help women and children look outside themselves and their problems to build confidence and to handle day-to-day challenges.
