The Media Kit is designed to provide you an overview of the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend’s impact, programs and leadership within the Quad Cities region. We invite you to learn more about the Foundation by reading on.
Overview The Community Foundation, originally named the Davenport Area Foundation, was established in 1964 to improve the quality of life of citizens living in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. Today, we are a collection of more than 680 charitable funds and provide support to hundreds of individuals, families and nonprofit organizations.
The Community Foundation has been under the direction of Susan S. Skora since 2004, and has grown to $72.8 million in assets (as of Dec. 31, 2010). We have expanded our philanthropic reach by working with 14 affiliate community foundations, and through the generosity and vision of our family of donors the Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling $6 million in fiscal year 2010.
The Foundation addresses needs in the areas of arts and culture, community development, education, the environment, health and human service, youth, and workforce development. We serve the community by:
- assisting donors to build and preserve enduring assets for charitable purposes;
- promoting and increasing responsible and effective philanthropy;
- monitoring and assessing changing needs, guided by the Community Vitality Scan, and
- convening members of the community to promote creative dialogue and to act on issues affecting our communities.
