2008/2009 Highlights

  • The Community Foundation reached more than $45.8 million in assets and it created partnerships with many new fundholders. Total charitable funds are more than 500.

  • Approximately 200 local women and men attend the 2009 Power of the Purse Luncheon and Silent Auction. Nationally renowed speaker, Tracy Gary, took participants on an insightful journey into charitable giving.

  • The Foundation’s focus on donor services led to the investment in MyFund, a secure online tool to manage your charitable funds.

  • In partnership with United Way of the Quad Cities Area, the Moline Foundation and Quad City Health Initiative, the Community Foundation helped produce the second editon of the Community Vitality Scan and Community Vitality Snapshot reports.

  • Robert and Hazel Cowles left an estate gift of $750,00 to benefit the Quad Cities area.

  • Past Board Chair, Jim Horstmann received the prestigious Community Service Award from Modern Woodmen of America in 2008.

  • Teens for Tomorrow is in its seventh year of operation and has taught more than 230 high school students about philanthropy.

  • The Leading Ladies Giving Circle is the first giving circle to be created at the Foundation and in the Quad Cities. These women have pledged to stay together until they award $10,000 in grants to local organizations, making a greater impact together than one could do alone.

  • The Morrison Area Community Foundation and Fulton Association for Community Enrichment (FACE) were established as affiliate foundations. Eleven affiliates now serve their local communities.

  • Community Foundation Board and staff participated in a strategic planning session that produced measurable goals for 2010.

  • The Community Foundation is a member of many professional organizations and collaborates with local agencies to spread the word of planned giving.
