About Us

A Community Foundation is a simple, powerful, and highly personal approach to giving.

As one community leader in rural Iowa says, “When my granddaughter is old enough to sit at this table, the assets will still be here. They are permanent, and they belong to the community.”

About us: What is a Community Fund?

Community funds are tax-exempt public charities serving thousands of people who share a common concern—that of improving the quality of life in their geographic area. In its general charitable purposes, a community foundation is much like a private foundation; its funds, however, are derived from many donors rather than a single source, as is usually the case with private foundations.

The community foundation idea is simple: Anyone may use it to give something back to the community.

CFNLC – Your partner in philanthropy

The Community Fund of North Lee County is a nonprofit public charity created by generous local citizens. It builds permanent charitable funds called endowments. Each endowment distributes a portion of the fund annually in perpetuity—forever—to support a charitable purpose. Donations may be made to funds which address community needs and reflect a donor’s interests and personal philanthropic goals. The CFNLC acts as a broad umbrella, sheltering many separate funds.

Currently the Community Foundation of North Lee County stewards more than eighty different funds established by individuals, families, and nonprofit agencies to benefit North Lee County. Since its founding in 2005, the Foundation has connected the needs of this area and the wishes of donors through personalized service, financial stewardship, local expertise, and community leadership. CFNLC seeks to make philanthropy easy and accessible for all by providing flexibility of giving options.

It’s all about improving the quality of life

In a community fund, individuals, families, businesses and organizations create and/or contribute to permanent charitable funds that help their communities and organizations meet the challenges of changing times. The foundation invests and provides administration for these funds. The Community Fund of North Lee County does more than simply distributing grants that advance charitable activities. It also identifies current and emerging issues, stimulates resources to address those needs and helps North Lee County prepare for the future.
