St. Mary's Parish Scholarship for Catholic Education (Davenport, IA)

St. Mary's Catholic Church is located at 516 Fillmore Street in Davenport, Iowa.  The church was established in 1867.  In 1902 a school was built across the street.  St. Mary's excellence in education throughout the years is noted by its alumni school and their contributions to the community.

In 2012, through the selling of cd's and dvd's on the history of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Assumption Class of 1962, the idea of a scholarship for catholic education started to crystallize.  It was the effort of Mary Tranor McFarland, 1958, 1962; Mary Atzen Gillooly, 1958, 1962; Tana Cook Odean 1958, 1962; and Tana Odean Hurt, 1985, that the cd's and dvd's became a reality.  Many alumni and parishioners contributed to the fund by purchasing the cd's and dvd's.  Catholic education of the parish youth has always been a priority of the parishioners.

St. Mary's Parish Scholarship for Catholic Education is a permanent endowment established as a tribute to St. Mary's catholic education.  Tana Odean established the fund in 2014 in honor of the assistance she received from Father James J. Hopkins, Pastor of St. Mary's 1954-1962.  When Ms. Odean graduated from St. Mary's School in 1958, she received a scholarship for her first year's tuition at Assumption High School.
