Shepherd B. Runge Memorial Endowment

In Honor of Shep

A Personal Endowment Fund has been established with the Community Foundation to honor the memory of Shepherd B. Runge. Shep spent his early life growing up in the Quad City community. He attended Bettendorf schools and graduated from Denison University. As a student, his interest in international economics and world affairs led him to work in the congressional office of Representative James Leach. He also enrolled in the Washington Semester Program at the American University and served with the Washington Analysis Corp.

Upon graduating from college, Shep gained experience in the financial worldand would be working for six months at the London office of the Swiss Bank. By enrolling in the work camp programs sponsored by the British Friends (Quakers) Society, he met many young people from all over the world. He later worked with the California office of G.T. Global, a Liechtenstein Global Trust member, as an equity analyst for financial asset funds.

Shep was an enthusiastic golfer, a loyal Redskins fan, and an avid reader. His generous and understanding nature enriched his abbreviated life with many good friends. Shep passed away in an automobile accident on his way to Lake Tahoe for a skiing weekend. His fund at the Community Foundation seeks to carry out Shep’s passion and love for life and his hometown.

"We build the community through construction, and through corporate philanthropy, we are able to give back."
