Jesus R. and Fermina Hernandez Apostolic Fund

Jesus R. Hernandez grew up in the stockyards of Kansas City, MO. He worked in a meatpacking house with his father, and during the summer months they were migrant farm workers. Jesus was a WWII Veteran, earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. After the war Jesus graduated from college and put himself through law school, all while helping his wife, Fermina, raise their seven children. Jesus was committed to his Catholic faith and he shared a desire to see other Hispanics embrace their religious beliefs. The Hernandez’s incorporated faith into the everyday lives of their children.

Phillip and Megan Hernandez, two of seven siblings, were proud of their parents and of their accomplishments. So much so, they established the Jesus R. and Fermina Hernandez Apostolic Fund. The purpose of this fund is to unite the parish schools of the local diocese and provide each child attending these schools the opportunity to learn in a faith-based environment. Phillip and Megan both believe Catholic schools located in local neighborhoods not only benefit working families, but also the community at large. They feel strongly that when parents become involved in local parish schools, neighborhoods are less likely to be taken over by drugs, crime and blight.

The Hernandez’s reside in Iowa and donate their time and talents to make the communities in which they live a better place. Phillip and Megan are carrying on their parents’ legacy of giving back and caring for others through the Jesus R. and Fermina Hernandez Apostolic Fund.

"The Endow Iowa Tax Credit was the perfect way to create a fund while taking advantage of the state tax credit.
