Hand-in-Hand Endowment

Hand-in-Hand is the concept of two sets of parents with special needs children. Mark and Vinnie Smith and Dave and Joanie Steil both had a dream of seeing their children afforded the same opportunities available to typical children. Unfortunately, the Steils were unable to realize this dream for their daughter, Tessa, because she passed away in May 1999. Hand-in-Hand was established in honor of Tessa’s memory and to keep her spirit alive.

Hand-in-Hand works with individuals with disabilities between the ages of six weeks to 21 years old. Hand-In-Hand is licensed by the State of Iowa with an accessible playground and facility tailored to the needs of children with disabilities.Professional directors, trained staff and volunteers offer years of experience in serving individuals with special needs and their families. Children with a wide range or variety of mental, physical and medical needs are welcomed participants in all of Hand-in-Hand’s programs.

Hand-in-Hand offers an array of services including: summer enrichment programs, day camp, weekend activities, Friday night care, slumber parties/overnights, childcare and much more.
