$4,400 Grant to Habitat for Humanity Will Replace Stolen Tools
Bettendorf, Iowa – The Community Foundation of the Great River Bend has made a $4,400 emergency grant to Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities, covering the cost of the organization’s stolen tools not reimbursed by insurance. Susan Skora, president of the Community Foundation, said Habitat’s need fit the requirements of an emergency grant.
“Emergency grants from the Foundation can be solicited, but they are also identified by our Board of Directors,” said Skora. “This grant will enable Habitat to remain on track with their summer building schedule and will allow the organization to continue building dreams.”
As previously reported, approximately $10,000 in tools were stolen from Habitat construction trailers parked between two build sites in Rock Island last week. Julie Surratt, director of development at Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities, said, “With the support of the Community Foundation, we can replace the tools and move forward with construction on the homes our partner families are working so hard to get. We are grateful for this contribution.”
Established in 1993, the local Habitat affiliate will celebrate the completion of its 53rd home, located at 804 9th Avenue in Rock Island, with a public ceremony tomorrow at 10am. The nonprofit organization will complete six homes in 2008.
The Community Foundation made an emergency grant to the American Red Cross in June 2007, to assist in the recovery efforts in Fruitland and Muscatine, Iowa. Individuals, families and organizations who make contributions to the Foundation’s Community Impact Fund make these grants possible. This Fund is a permanent endowment that allows the Community Foundation the flexibility to respond to unmet needs and in emergency situations.
