CFGRB Commits $100,000 in Financial Support to Homeless Shelter

Bettendorf, Iowa – The Community Foundation of the Great River Bend has announced a $100,000 commitment to Humility of Mary Housing to support the operation of its newly acquired homeless shelter. The Foundation will make grants to Humility of Mary over a period of time and as funds are needed.

The Foundation’s commitment was initiated by its board of directors, as it recognized the importance and the urgency of this issue. It is the largest board approved grant in the Community Foundation’s history, and the organization is encouraging others to reach outside of their normal response.

“A number of organizations are making financial commitments, but the level of giving is not enough to sustain the operation of a homeless shelter,” said Susan Skora, Community Foundation president/CEO. “Humility of Mary needs at least three years of community support in order build the capacity they need to maintain the shelter on a long-term basis.”

The Community Foundation was able to pledge its support to Humility of Mary because of generous donors, who trusted the Foundation to identify our community’s greatest needs. Their gifts to the Foundation’s Community Impact Fund allow the organization to respond to unmet needs, as they arise and vary from year to year.

Anyone wishing to support the homeless shelter may make their contribution to The Fund for the Homeless, c/o Community Foundation of the Great River Bend, 852 Middle Road, Suite 100, Bettendorf, IA 52722.
